In most circumstances, he can agree on daily/hourly rates or a fixed fee, depending on party preference.

EXPERIENCE

After almost 20 years as a commercial litigator, Geoff is widely recognised for his mediation work in Asia, UK and New Zealand where he has been resolving cross border disputes for the past decade.

Since launching Maxwell Mediators in June 2019, to date in 2019 Geoff has mediated cross border disputes in London, Zurich, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and New Zealand.

While primarily facilitative in approach, Geoff will often give subtle gradations of advice that clients and representatives usually appreciate when it is in the right form and at the right time.

In early 2020 Geoff was appointed to the International Advisory Board of the Office of the Ombudsman for United Nations Funds and Programmes, having oversight of the Ombudsman’s Global Mediation Panel where he joins a small global group of mediators and academic members of the Board.

A member of Clifton Chambers (Wellington) and a door tenant of Brick Court Chambers (London), Geoff has been mediating in the Asia Pacific for the last decade and is a certified mediator in Singapore, being a member of both the SMC and SIMC international mediation panels. Geoff is a SIMC Ambassador and he is also a member of the National Electricity Market of Singapore Dispute Resolution and Compensation Panel. In 2018 he was appointed an inaugural panel member of Japan’s International Mediation Center which will work closely with the Mainland-Hong Kong Joint Mediation Center.

Known as a mediator who can connect with parties in conflict, Geoff has been engaged by many of the world’s leading law firms and ADR organisations like the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SMIC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Dubai International Arbitration Center (DIAC), as well as the various governments and government entities including UAE, Singapore, India, UK, Pakistan and New Zealand.

Geoff has taught lawyers about mediation around the globe including, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, UAE, Cook Islands, Fiji, UK, France and the USA.
